Best Sugar Cookie Of Your Life!

No, really, you will LOVE this cookie!

Many many years ago, when I was a young woman living in Utah, a local bakery Granny B's sold
this same type of cookie fresh daily at the gas station checkouts.
You just grabbed your cookie right out of a 9x13 pans sitting on the counter,
not individually wrapped.
Yeah, super sanitary, right?
But they were SOOOOO good, no one cared about the germs.

A big pink cookie and a HUGE Diet Coke and I was set on breakfast!

Eventually Granny B's got so popular they started mass-producing, individually-wrapping, and shipping nationwide so that everyone could enjoy the deliciousness!
You can even buy a huge box of them at Sam's Club and probably pretty much anywhere.
While they are still really good in their mass-produced packaging,
there is NOTHING like fresh!!!!!

Granny B's Cookies® Pink Sugar - 4 oz - 10 ct.

Oh how I missed the fresh ones from the gas stations!

Years later, on one fine day my good friend Rebecca made cookies that looked just like the ones from the gas stations.
And HEAVENS TO BETSY, they tasted just like 'em too!
OH.  MY.  PINK.  GOODNESS!

I've had this recipe for at least 10 years now, and I apologize that I didn't share it sooner.
But now, you're welcome.

I've made these for scout pack nights, many a party, school events, and so forth, and there is always someone who dies for more.
My kids, especially Maddie, can't get enough!

So here ya go.

The Best Sugar Cookie of Your Life:
{I actually recommend that you double this}
Cream 1 cup butter
1 3/4 cup sugar
add 2 eggs
add 1 cup sour cream
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp almond extract
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
add 5+ cups flour

I leave my mixer going as I keep throwing ingredients in.

You'll want the dough to be a little bit sticky....that'll keep the cookies from baking too dry.

Roll out dough. Roll it THICK!  The thicker the better!
{they don't rise much}
Cut with {large} cookie cutters.

Bake 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees.

DON'T LET THEM GET BROWN!!

See those white cookies in the background?
THOSE ARE ALREADY BAKED!
You'll want them white & soft.

FROSTING:
1 cube butter
1 tsp almond extract
Powdered sugar 2-3 cups
Food coloring
Sprinkles

......and that's how the cookie crumbles!

  10. Hello! I have a few questions. How many dozen cookies does this recipe make? And does the dough need to chill at all before baking?

    Thanks,
    Leslie

    1. Hi Leslie,
The dough does NOT need to chill first. That's one of the beauties of this recipe. Good question!

Secondly, it depends on the size of your cookie cutters. I make them huge so I only get maybe 2 dozen (only 6-9 per pan).

      Merry Christmas!
