This is my family's very favorite pie.
We are the only people I know who make it.
Why is that?
Maybe because no one else has the recipe?
I dunno.
Well, now YOU have the recipe too!
It's a rich sweet custard pie that is very easy to make!
I originally got this recipe from my ex's aunt....
who got it from her friend...
who got it from a buttermilk carton in east Texas.
Maybe it's a Texas thing?
Anyway, I used to make pie crust from scratch.
Pshhhh.
I buy my crusts now.
It saves tons of time and they are really really good.
BUTTERMILK PIE
{this is for one pie...last time we quadrupled it!}
2 cups sugar
1 stick melted butter
4 TB flour
3 beaten eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 pie crust
cinnamon
Mix sugar, butter, flour, eggs, buttermilk and vanilla in bowl. Poke your pie crust with a fork so that it doesn't puff with air bubbles. Pour mix into pie crust. Sprinkle a good dusting of cinnamon on top then swirl with the back of a spoon.
Bake at 325 degrees for one hour.
I usually wrap a strip of aluminum foil around the edges for the first 45 minutes to keep the crust from getting too dark.
It is best served warm with a little whipped cream on top.
P.S. My son Grady and his friend Devyn made this last batch of pies....after I went to bed.
Saweet!
It was his first time making these and they turned out GREAT!
Enjoy!!!
